Description

This is an ensemble that I designed and made for my term runway show at school last spring. It is different from what I normally consider my typical design aesthetic, but my goal was to create something very wearable. I was inspired while watching a show on suspension bridges on the History Channel, this outfit in particular was influenced heavily by the George Washington Bridge in New York. The top is constructed from a cotton/poly stretch blend bottomweight, with a satin bow closure at the neck and hidden hooks and eyes down the inside center front. The seams are all accented with silver metal eyelets (more than 100 of them!) which are hard to see in the pic... sorry. The sleeves are 3 piece sleeves, and the seams are also accented with eyelets. These represent the rivets in the bridges...

The pants are made from an extremely soft beige moleskin (can't remember fiber), and have a fly front, stand-away front pockets and gradually widen towards the hem. The pants are two-piece, there is a seam right below the knee, and the bottom part of the leg is actually draped on bias to achieve the cowl effect (which reflects the suspension cables on the bridge). I made both of these pieces with combination draping and drafting. The lovely model is my sis, and the photographer is my fave, Owen McKeown.
