Artist's Comments

I walked into class this morning, and our professor handed us a bunch of random fabric and said: "We are in current scene, so we do things differently. Therefore, I want you to use this fabric and drape me something in 1 hour, without worrying about draping rules and grainlines, etc." So this is the little beauty I came up with. My professor was verrrrry pleased :) Also make sure to check out the Backview

also like the very high neckline....i think a girl with a long and elegent neck and long arms would look so good in this...

really like this....i dig the shoulders, the way they are cut almost in a babydoll t-shirt style and i like thick band across the waist and the tuck and roll across the chest (i like especially the way the tucks are irregular)....you know what though...i bet this would look great with either a really long skirt area or even a really short skirt (hemline?) but the length right now doesn't seem right to me...ok...just my opinion...see ya!

thanks! yeah, i'm gonna tweak this a bit... like i said, it was done in an hour, and the fabric is so CRAzY that it's impossible to see the seam/yoke details i have up at the shoulders, and the attached caplet... not to mention the assymetric pleats on the front bodice. Overall, I ADORE the silhouette, but I am definitely gonna tweak it. As for the hem length, I agree with lengthening it (maybe to mid/upper calf)... just to make it more polished, etc. thanks so much for your thoughts! i dig hearing what other people think :)

no i could see some of the detail in the shoulders...the small cutouts....i like that and i could see the assymetric pleats i like that a lot....added a lot of dynamics to the design...yeah if you lengthen the hem line it would really make it much more elegent and finished looking...i know this was kind of just a class drill for you but you may just end up with a really nice dress out of it....so do you have any favorite designers?

yes i do... a few (ok, maybe more than a few!). I LOVE Roland Mouret, he's kinda the toast of the "elegant" celebs right now, but his clothes are amazing. So amazing. And I like Basso & Brooke, they have CRAZY prints put together in super-fun ways. Nanette Lepore is also a huge favorite, ESPECIALLY her Spring '06 collection. Let's see... oh yes, I love ThreeAsFour (formerly AsFour), they make exquisite and VERY technical clothes through flat-pattern manipulation. Annnd, Luella Bartley. Who is doing a collection for Target that will hit stores within the month I believe. Cheeky English country design... it's great; and last but not least DSquared... great great stuff. (I haven't even gotten into the couture designers yet, but I'll just say that Gaultier is amazing). Style.com has every designer listed here, you can view their collections for Spring '06, and since it's currently A/W fashion week here in NYC, they may have some of the newest AW '06 collections out... just browse. (oh yes, and as for menswear --> Cloak and DSquared)
